The Joy of Christmas

The Joy of Christmas

This time of year is always so busy with the hustle and bustle of the holidays.  Holiday parties, creating Christmas magic, shopping, wrapping, baking, the list seems endless!!

Playing Santa to my 6 year old is by far my favourite thing about Christmas.  Watching his eyes light up and the excitement of unwrapping all those presents waiting for him under the tree fills my heart with absolute joy.  It’s so easy to get caught up in this chaos of providing the “perfect Christmas” for your family that spreading the joy of giving to others may fall by the wayside.  That is, until my son, with tears in his eyes, reminded me that some kids don’t even get dinner every night and asked if he can ask for food to give other families for Christmas.

This was my turning point.  This holiday, my family is focusing more on giving back than receiving.  In that spirit, we’re spreading that joy from the clinic family this year as well!  Our local London Drugs is proud to be a part of the “Stocking Stuffers for Seniors” campaign, which supplies wish lists from local seniors to make their season a bit brighter.   It’s simple, you take a tag with a name, pick out the items on their wish list, and bring them back to the location where you acquired the tag for Santa and his elves to deliver some Christmas joy.

We're encouraging everyone to try and add a little extra magic in our community this year by donating, whether it be to the local food bank, toy drive, or this great campaign.   Spreading joy to the amazing people of Nanaimo who may not always have the opportunities to have the same kind of holiday magic we all get caught up in.

A quick note, the Smile Essentials team will be away during the holiday season from December 21, 2017 until January 1, 2018.  Regular office hours will resume Tuesday January 2, 2018 at 7:00am.  There will be emergency appointments available and you are welcome to leave a message and I will return your call as soon as I’m able on Tuesday January 2, 2018.

Wishing everyone a great Christmas season, from our families to yours.  We look forward to seeing you in 2018!
